EU Services is a high-growth, profitable organization based on a rich history of customer care and with a clear vision for the future. Let us light the way.
EU Services opened its doors in November of 1968 as Envelopes Unlimited, a small envelope printing company in Rockville, MD. Its founders were John and Marjorie Mackey, the parents of J. Bruce Mackey, past president and former Chairman of the Board of Directors.
John Mackey had been involved in the commercial printing trade for years and recognized the need for a company that specialized in printing envelopes at competitive prices and with fast service. He started this venture with just one envelope press in a small warehouse and his first employee, John Loudon, currently a board member. Within five years Envelopes Unlimited had become the number one printing company in the area Washington, DC area.
In 1971, EU moved to its present location at 649 North Horners Lane. The business expanded to include offset presses for the commercial printing of direct mail. Early in 1978, we opened a mail processing division, the Mail House, to meet the growing demands of the direct mail market. We acquired an adjacent building and coined the phrase “One Call Does It All”. At the same time we were experiencing tremendous growth in our mail processing division, EU entered the computer age. We started our data processing division, DataComm, late in 1979. We began by providing list maintenance and label generation to our customers for services located “all under one roof.”
In 1983, Envelopes Unlimited changed its name to EU Services in order to better represent our years of growth and diversification from a small envelope printer to a large, multi-service company. EU Services was one of the first printers to embrace desktop publishing in 1987. With its inclusion, our total package concept was complete. EU Services added 4 color digital printing in the 2000’s as the industry continued to change.
In 2014, the Mackey family sold their majority interest to Maidstone Capital Corp, a private equity company. A new management group led by Russ Stewart (President) came on board to help with the next phase of growth. The Loudon family continues to maintain a minority ownership, including Tom and Dave Loudon who are actively involved as senior managers in the business. EU Services increased its capacity and capabilities by adding roll to roll UV forms printing, imaging, high speed inserting and finishing, as well as expanded postal optimization with commingling services in 2015.
Today, EU is able to offer our customers a comprehensive range of direct marketing production services in a totally digital workflow environment — from the simplest direct mail package to the most complex integrated marketing campaign. Over the years, EU Services has become one of the nation’s premier full service print production and direct marketing companies.
